Park History

This property was acquired from the Bureau of Land Management through the Recreation & Public Purposes Act for $50.00. The park was named in honor of Jack and Nellie Brown, who moved into the Ship Creek area in 1915. The park is known for its view of the city, the Alaska Railroad area, the waterfront and the surrounding mountains. The park also contains a totem pole that
was built by schoolchildren and recently restored by the community using funds from an Anchorage Park Foundation Challenge Grant.
