Castle Heights Park - 2009 Fix-It Complete!

On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, the Anchorage Park Foundation, the Parks & Recreation Department and neighbors of Castle Heights Park worked together to make Fix-Its identified in the Anchorage Parks Report Card. Eager community volunteers accomplished tremendous changes on the United Way Day of Caring in September. Staff and volunteers:
• Installed a new park rules sign to promote healthy and safe enjoyment of Anchorage parks
• Installed a new park sign to invite neighbors into the park
• Installed new benches, creating inviting seating areas
• Installed new dog station and new trash containers to promote park cleanliness
• Weeded and replenished pea gravel near play area
• Created a new brick Picnic Plaza with new benches
• Repaired broken pavement in pathways
• Repaired damage to sod by hydroseeding
• Cleaned play equipment and removed grafitti

Park History
In 1978, the community asked the Parks & Recreation Department to consider a lot where a house had been condemned as a possible park. In 1981, the park was purchased with bonds and Federal Grant funds. The park consists of six lots that were either condemned or deemed unsuitable for homes. The park was constructed in 1982.
