Nichols Park -2011 YEP CREW WORK PROJECT

3247 E. 16th Ave.

In 2011, our goal was to repair sections of asphalt damaged by root systems located on the connecting trail in between Nichols and Tikishla Park. We did this through saw cuts, root removal, and cold patches in areas with significant damage. Youth Employment in Parks crew members implemented the project guided by Alaska Trails.

We awarded a 2008 Challenge Grant to the Nichols Park Reclamation Project Committee.

what we did

  • Repaired root damaged areas in pathway (YEP)
  • Removed Invasive Birdcherry
  • Added trees (Challenge Grant)
  • Repaired turf areas (CG)
  • Installed Gates (CG)
  • Removed dugouts (CG)
  • Repaired fence (CG)
  • Installed Boulders (CG)

Next year we plan to repave the entire connection trail!
