Park History

This park is a combination of two park properties. Some property was purchased in 1968 and 1983 with bond money, and another portion was acquired through tax foreclosure.

The area next to Willow Street was known as Willow Park. The nearby elementary school held a naming contest and the name was changed to Little Park. The other section of park was named for a gentleman who lived on the property in a tar paper shack. He was known in the neighborhood as the Old Hermit.

Planning for the park was completed in 1973, calling for play structures, an open playfield and a picnic area. By 1974, most of the construction was complete. In 2003, new play equipment was installed in the park.
