Note from the Director
This fall, more than 1,000 Anchorage residents filled out Anchorage Parks Report Cards! We unveiled the results of their work Friday with Mayor Mark Begich at a press event at Fairview Recreation Center.
We're excited to get to work on attacking the "Fix It" lists for our neighborhood parks.
With help from supporters and volunteers like you, we'll make a difference in our community.
Check out the park profiles for detailed results in your neighborhood.
May your holiday season and New Year be filled with healthy recreation opportunities!

Get Outdoors Summit
On Dec. 10 & 11, the Get Outdoors Anchorage! Coalition met for a working summit to discuss reconnecting Anchorage children with the outdoors. The Anchorage Park Foundation and the Parks & Recreation Department are active leaders in the effort to get kids healthy, active and outdoors.
Naturalists Needed!
Anchorage Parks & Recreation and the Anchorage Park Foundation are partnering to kick off a new Naturalists Program, and we need your help! We are looking for people to lead nature walks, give talks about parks, natural environments and community history and lead tours of parks and park facilities.
It's a great way to get involved in your community and introduce kids and park visitors to their surroundings. Knowledge about wildlife, ecology, parkland, Anchorage history or just about anything else is useful! You can help for one day or for one year. If you're interested, please contact Abbey Harding at hardingas@muni.org.
This Winter: FREEZE on the Park Strip
Between January 10 - February 2, the FREEZE Project, a celebration of life in Alaska and other northern climates, will feature an installation of ice sculptures created by internationally known artists on the Delaney Park Strip. The FREEZE Project will also include a variety of community events, lectures and programs.
This project is supported in part by a Challenge Grant from the Anchorage Park Foundation.
New Expertise at Parks & Recreation
The Parks & Recreation Department recently hired Chris Conlon to lead the Recreation section and Scott Stringer to tackle the new Urban Forester position. Both have extensive experience in their fields and a lot to offer the Anchorage community.
More APF on the Web
We've been hard at work on the Anchorage Park Foundation website, building a useful new feature: a directory of Anchorage parks. Looking for a park near you? Interested in knowing what features that park you keep meaning to visit has? Use our Google map and our directory to get acquainted with parks near you.
