Anchorage Park Foundation
Fall 2011

Note from the Executive Director

Beth Nordlund

Anchorage Park Fans-
This is a very newsy fall. We are putting the finishing touches on 46 summer park projects before the snow flies, and at the same time we are asking volunteers to get out and assess the condition of our neighborhood parks with the Park Report Card tool. We want to make it easy for YOU Shannon Kuhnto invest in our parks with your time, energy, advocacy, and funds. Let us know how the improvements are working for you, and what is left on your neighborhood park fix-it list.

A big welcome to Shannon Kuhn, our new Communications & Development Director. We are very excited to have her join the team!

P.S. With this new iPhone app I will never get lost on the way to one of our 223 parks again!

Volunteers Taking Ownership of Our Parks

Anchorage Parks AppIn 2008, over 1,000 volunteers filled out our Anchorage Park Report Cards and helped make Fix-It Lists. Due directly to your input, we made substantial park renovations the past three summers in 27 much loved neighborhood parks! Now we need your help again:

Park Report Cards: Calling all park users and volunteers! Is your park an A or an F? Now is the time to find out. Join us in grading Anchorage parks, have a voice in neighborhood park revitalization and strengthening quality of life, and provide us with valuable input. Return to 715 L St. by October 2nd.

The Anchorage Parks Mobile App is Here! The FREE Anchorage Parks App features a full park directory by name, location, and will link you directly to a map if you ever need directions. Use our Report Card feature to give input directly from your phone, and even upload photos! The free download is available for both iPhones and Androids. Let us know if you are having problems.

Neighbor Power! 7 Park Fix-Its Accomplished

This summer, volunteers from all walks of life came together in their neighborhoods to revitalize our parks. We worked with community councils committees to prioritize the fix-its to ensure that funds were used to meet community needs. We made these improvements with generous support from the Rasmuson Foundation, the Alaska State Legislature, and supporters like YOU.

In case you missed it...

YEP at Summerpalooza

The 5th year of the Youth Employment in Parks program made a difference in parks and trails around town. They also organized Summerpalooza, a celebration in Cuddy Family Midtown Park. This season's 25 YEP teens represented 13 high schools, spoke 10 different languages, and accomplished tangible results.
