Anchorage is a city of flowers: each summer, the Parks & Recreation Department Horticulture Division grows more than 80,000 annuals for display in more than 1300 hanging baskets and 270 flower beds throughout the city.
The baskets you see from 4th Avenue to the north are composed of sapphire lobelia and triploid marigolds, mimicking the Alaska state flag colors. The baskets located along 6th Avenue and in Spenard are composed of ivy geraniums.
You can learn more about Anchorage's flowers or take a self-guided walking tour here.
The Anchorage Park Foundation is proud to partner with the Municipality of Anchorage Parks & Recreation Department to raise public and private funds to support Anchorage's flowers.
The Anchorage Park Foundation welcomes contributions for the Flower Fund in order to sponsor the beautiful baskets adding color, vibrancy and life to our beautiful city. To recognize each contribution of $300 or more, the Parks & Recreation Department will display a plaque on the light post recognizing your donation.
