Neighborhood Park Fix-Its

2010 Neighborhood Park Fix-Its

This summer, the Anchorage Parks & Recreation Department and the Anchorage Park Foundation will be making community-identified Fix-Its in eight Anchorage parks. We are working with community council committees to prioritize the fix-its to ensure that funds will be used to meet community needs, like replacing dilapidated benches, trash cans, park signs and playground equipment; removing graffiti; restoring landscaped areas; and improving park safety. We will make these fixes with generous support from the Rasmuson Foundation, the Alaska State Legislature and volunteers like you.

Please join us for the work days in the 2010 neighborhood parks!

Where did the Fix-Its come from?

In fall 2008, over 1,000 Anchorage parks supporters participated in grading neighborhood parks. For more information, please visit the summary report and Park Profiles for each of the 53 parks evaluated.

In summer 2009, the Anchorage Park Foundation partnered to accomplish the Fix-Its in 14 of those neighborhood parks. Volunteers, staff and contractors worked together to revitalize parks-- from replacing trash cans and play equipment to restoring landscaping and removing graffiti.

For more information on 2009 summer fix-its, and to get an idea of what might be coming to a park near you in 2010, check out the 2009 summary report.

Thanks to Nikki Navio, KTUU, Baker-Jennings Films and Alaska Teen Media Institute for creating this great video.

Neighborhood park fix-it volunteers contributed more than 6,500 hours to cleaning and greening neighborhood parks in Anchorage in summer 2008.
