My Favorite Anchorage Park

Margaret Eagan Sullivan Park

by Craig Torrey
Trail Watch

Margaret Eagan Sullivan Park has what realtors call location, location & location. Couple that with many other desirable qualities, such as - right on the water, lots of open space, wildlife galore, the hub of activity for so many park and trail activities, plenty of parking, a combination playground/fitness station, benches and picnic tables, nice ambiance, manicured garden areas nearby, and the "Trailwatch" headquarters and refreshment center.

The park has something for just about everyone in the summer and shoulder seasons; whether it's throwing a frisbee, launching a canoe, photographing abundant waterfowl, using the playground or fitness stations, picnicking, grabbing a snack and directions at the Trailwatch headquarters substation.or just simply relaxing.

In the winter season, it's a great place for enjoying the ice skating, ice hockey and other winter related activities, as well as a good location to launch a day of skiing on the Coastal and Chester Creek trails.

This wonderful park now has the added benefit of housing the main headquarters of the active and growing Trailwatch program, located adjacent to the main parking lot and restroom area. Park and trail users can find information about this volunteer trail user/safety program inside this building, as well as maps, and refreshments for purchase throughout the summer months. Friendly volunteers from Covenant House staff this facility throughout the summer.

I enjoy Margaret Eagan Sullivan Park in so many ways, it has become my favorite park!
