My Favorite Anchorage Park

Kincaid Park Frisbee Golf Course

by Josh Berry

My favorite park is the Frisbee golf course at Kincaid. It is the biggest Frisbee golf course in all of Anchorage. It has some amazing views of the inlet that are great photo opportunities, especially at sunset. I had never been to Kincaid until one of my friends asked me to go frolfing.

My favorite memory of Kincaid is just going there with my friends and having a great time outdoors. It's nice being in the middle of the woods and seeing a moose or some other wild animal.

I have only used the park for frolfing but I hope to explore the rest of the park by taking walks on many of the trails there at Kincaid. I will use Kincaid for the rest of my time as a student here in Anchorage and if I go out of state for future schooling I will come back to this park. I can't imagine another place like that anywhere -- a place were you can be in the middle of nowhere and see all sorts of animals in the middle of a frolf game.

I hope they can put some more frolf holes in Kincaid, but above all I hope that the park stays as natural as possible because that is what Alaska is: the wilderness. That is why people come to Alaska; to see the amazing views and the spectacular wildlife. If we take away the parks, that would take away what makes Anchorage different from all the other cities in America. Escapes to the wilderness help you forget about the modern world. The escapes where you can go into your thoughts without being bothered by excess noise. Parks are an essential part of this idea and when we take them away we take away a part of life.
